India reached the T20 World Cup final for the third time following a commanding 68-run victory over defending champions England in the second semi-final of the 2024 edition on Thursday (June 27).
Rohit Sharma's side have remained unbeaten in the T20 World Cup 2024, registering wins over Ireland, Pakistan and USA in the first round group stages with one fixture against Canada ending in No Result.

With that run in the first round, the Men in Blue topped Group A to qualify for Group 1 in Super 8, where they defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia to finish top and sealed their spot in the semi-finals.
In the last four clash, the Indian cricket team rode on skipper Rohit's fifty to post a challenging total of 171 before the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel claimed three wickets each to bundle out England for 103.
Following the clinical victory over England, India sealed a final berth for the third time in 9 editions of the T20 World Cup, and also reached their first summit clash since 2014. The Indian team made semi-final exits in 2016 and 2022 editions.
As they prepare for the title showdown with South Africa, here is a look at how Team India fared in the previous to finals of the T20 World Cup and who led the team in those two deciders:
Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India reached the title clash in the inaugural edition in 2007 and seven years later qualified for the final under the same captain in 2014.
Team India met arch-rivals in the 2007 T20 World Cup final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, while they faced another Asian rival Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup final at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
The Men in Blue lifted the trophy only once in the 2007 edition beating Pakistan in the title clash, while they went down to Sri Lanka and finished as runners up in the 2014 edition.
