IND vs SA: 'They don't win anything' - Michael Vaughan calls India most underachieving sports team in world

IND vs SA: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has called India the most underachieving cricket team in the world after their embarrassing innings and 32-run defeat against South Africa in the first Test in Centurion.

India lost the Boxing Day Test match on Day 3 after getting bundled out for 131 runs in the second innings. The last seven batters in the India playing eleven collectively scored 16 runs in the second innings.

“Do you think, in terms of cricket, India are one of the most underachieving sports teams in the world?” Vaughan asked Mark Waugh in FoxSports Studio. The former Australia batter passed back the question to Vaughan who explained why India are the most underachieving team in the world.

“They haven’t won much in recent times. I think they are [an underachieving side]. They don’t win anything. When was the last time they won something? With all the talent they have, all the skill-set.

“They’ve won in Australia twice [Test series in 2018/19 and 2020/21]. Magnificent, but the last few World Cups, been nowhere, in the last few T20 World Cups, been nowhere," Vaughan said.

“They’re a good team, have got plenty of talent but with all the talent they have and the resource they have, I just don’t think they win," he added.

Mark Waugh agreed to what Michael Vaughan by saying that the Indian team win a lot of games, but have not managed to cross the line in the big matches. Notably, India last won an ICC trophy back in 2013. In 2023, Rohit Sharma-led India lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final and World Cup final.
