IND vs SA: Can South Africa expose India in Super 8 Clash as Shukri Conrad claims?

By MyKhel Staff

South Africa coach Shukri Conrad is turning up the heat on India just hours before their high-stakes T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash.

With memories of his infamous "grovel" taunt still fresh, Conrad sees a golden chance to unsettle the hosts in front of their roaring Ahmedabad crowd.

IND vs SA We can Expose Them - South Africa coach Conrad who made Grovel Remark raises Heat

Conrad, who sparked outrage last November after South Africa's record 408-run Test demolition of India in Guwahati, isn't shying away from the psychological warfare. Speaking ahead of Sunday's Group 1 opener at Narendra Modi Stadium, he laid out his blueprint.

IND vs SA: Shukri Conrad says South Africa can 'expose' India

"There's so much scrutiny, especially for a side like India. They're going to be under a lot of pressure to make the semi-finals and obviously go on and make the finals as well. Hopefully, we can expose them and make them vulnerable under that pressure," Conrad said at the pre-match press conference.

The Proteas coach knows the weight of expectation in India runs deeper than anywhere else. "There's so much scrutiny, especially (for) a side like India," he added, highlighting the double-edged sword of home advantage.

While South Africa chases their first global T20 crown, Conrad believes the hosts' desperation could be their undoing. Pressure isn't one-sided, Conrad admits, but he's banking on India's massive fanbase to amplify the nerves.

"Pressure is a big thing, but it's pressure both for them and us. I think we all talk about the pressure of playing against the top side, but we're not quite aware of what the pressures they are under," he added.

How can South Africa expose India?

South Africa enters unbeaten, fresh off a dominant group-stage run, while India remains perfect but faces do-or-die vibes early in the Super 8s. Conrad's words echo his bold personality, once calling for India to "grovel" post-Test win, and signal the Proteas' intent to exploit every crack.

India do have an edge over their counterparts in the recent T20I meetings. They won the recent series last year in India, and also won the T20 World Cup final in 2024 at the expense of the Proteas.

But India have struggled with their batting in this T20 World Cup. All has not been well for them as they have had stutters in the middle. Abhishek Sharma's form is also a worry as the southpaw is yet to score a run in this World Cup after three ducks in a row. Apart from that, the lack of bite in their middle order can also be an inroad for South Africa to hurt India.
