IND vs SL, Asian Games 2026: India create New Record after 124-run Victory, advance to Gold Medal Match vs Pakistan
India produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the second semifinal of the men's T20 cricket competition at the Asian Games 2026 in Nisshin on Thursday. The victory sent Shreyas Iyer's side into the gold medal match against Pakistan.
After Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl, India posted 169/7 in 20 overs. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided a flying start with 38 off 21 balls, smashing six fours and two sixes. However, India lost wickets at regular intervals and slipped to 87/4.

Ishan Kishan then took charge, producing a superb unbeaten 80 off 46 balls, with four fours and five sixes. His counter-attacking innings rescued India and powered them to a competitive total. Washington Sundar also struck a six late in the innings.
Sri Lanka's chase turned into a one-sided affair. India's bowling attack ripped through the batting line-up, with Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi among those making key contributions. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for just 45, giving India a massive 124-run victory.
The win keeps India on course to defend the Asian Games men's T20 gold medal won at Hangzhou 2022. India will now face Pakistan in the final, with gold at stake.
India create New Record
India have now become the undisputed leaders for the most 100-plus-run victories in men's T20Is, with the win over Sri Lanka taking their tally to 11 such victories. This puts India clear at the top of the list, ahead of Canada (10) and Austria (9).
Zimbabwe, Nepal, Japan, Malaysia and Uganda have eight 100-plus-run wins each, while Pakistan and England are among the teams with six. India's latest emphatic victory further underlines their dominance in the shortest format, with their ability to turn strong batting performances into huge-margin wins becoming a recurring feature of their T20I record.
