IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma was dismissed on the second ball of his debut World Cup match at his home ground Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, November 2. The Indian team captain hit a boundary on the first ball before his stumps were cleaned by Dilshan Madushanka on the next delivery.

Sri Lanka came out with the perfect plan to get rid of in-form Rohit Sharma. The first ball angled back in as the right-hander guided it past short third man for a four. He anticipated another delivery which would come back in.

However, the ball held its line and cleaned the off-stump of Rohit Sharma who anticipated an in-swinger and played the wrong line. There was a pin drop silence at the Wankhede Stadium after the dismissal of the home boy. Rohit's maiden World Cup match at the Wankhede was highly anticipated.

12 years later, the 'Hitman' of Indian cricket is leading India in the World Cup. Though he got out soon, he became the first India batter to cross the 400-run mark in the World Cup 2023.

"Great honour, great moment to lead the team," Rohit Sharma said at toss while leading India for the first time at his home ground Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India are unchanged in the match as Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav continue to feature in the playing eleven in the absence of Hardik Pandya. India have won each of their first six matches and are the only unbeaten side in the World Cup 2023.
