IND vs SL: Shreyas Iyer blasted 82 runs off just 56 balls to set the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on fire during India's match against Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2023 on Thursday, November 2.
The right-hand batter had looked sharp throughout the tournament but had registered just one fifty-plus score before the match. He scored unbeaten 53 unbeaten runs against Pakistan but managed to score just 19, 33 and 4 in his next three innings. He was dismissed for a duck in the match against Australia.

However, the local boy raised the temperature and propelled India to 357/8 in 50 overs. India were 276/5 when Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed on the third ball of the 42nd over. But the 36-ball 57-run partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja changed the complexion of the India innings.
During the course of the innings, Shreyas Iyer scored three fours and six sixes - including the biggest (106 metres) of the World Cup 2023. Iyer got a standing ovation from everyone present at Wankhede Stadium when he was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka in the 48th over.
Fans on social media also hailed the innings from the 28-year-old and called him 'selfless' for also trying to keep the tempo up for the team and not thinking about playing a safe innings.
