IND vs SL: When Will Team India Leave For Sri Lanka to Play The White-Ball Series?

By MyKhel Staff

The Indian cricket team is set to tour Sri Lanka to play six white-ball games - three T20Is followed by three ODIs, starting from next weekend on Saturday (July 27).

This will India's second tour since winning the T20 World Cup last month, but will be the first to feature bulk of the triumphant squad as the Zimbabwe tour featured many new faces.

India to leave for Sri Lanka at the start of next week

Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20I side after Rohit Sharma, who has retained the role in ODIs, retired from the shortest format following the World Cup win in the Caribbean alongside Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.

As three seniors are no longer part of the T20I group, a few players from the Zimbabwe tour also retained their spots in the T20 squad for the Sri Lanka series. Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Khaleel Ahmed and Ravi Bishnoi have all been retained in the T20I squad.

With the series approaching soon, Team India will be leaving to Sri Lanka in the coming days as new head coach Gautam Gambhir prepares to take on the role vacated by Rahul Dravid. Gambhir will start his tenure in the Sri Lanka series.

India is set to tour Sri Lanka for a bilateral T20I series for the first time since 2021, when they lost the series 1-2 to the hosts. In eight outings against Sri Lanka in their own backyard, however, India has won 5 times.

When will Team India leave for Sri Lanka to play the white-ball series?

The series is scheduled to start on Saturday (July 27). So, the Indian team is expected to leave either in the weekend or at the start of next week to the neighbouring island nation. Reports suggest the team will leave for Sri Lanka on Monday (July 22).

The report further added that the new head coach Gambhir will be officially unveiled in a press conference before the team leaves for Sri Lanka to play in the T20I and ODI series. It is still unclear if only the members of the T20I squad will leave on July 22.

India named Suryakumar as the T20I captain, and Rohit as the ODI captain for the tour with Shubman Gill serving as the deputy to both of them in the upcoming series. With Rohit and few others only being named in the ODIs, they could join the rest on a later date.

As the ODI series is only scheduled to start on August 2, Rohit, Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Harshit Rana may link up with the rest of the squad in the next weekend instead of flying out at the start of the coming week. Here is a look at the 2 squads:
