Dinesh Karthik has hailed Ravichandran Ashwin for his batting skills after the 36-year-old off-spinner smashed a quality fifty on Day 2 of the ongoing Test match between India and West Indies on Friday.

The Tamil Nadu cricketer walked in to bat at eight and scored 56 off 78 deliveries. His innings included 8 exquisite boundaries. His partnership with Ishan Kishan accounted for 33 runs off 62 deliveries. Ashwin contributed 33 off 62, while Kishan managed 13 off 31.

The knock helped India post a total in excess of 400 runs. The fifty was Ashwin's 14th in Test cricket. He also has five hundreds to his name.

“There is something about the man, isn't it? We end up talking about him in almost every Test match that he plays. He does something, more often it's with the ball, but there are many occasions that he's done so well with the bat.

"But the key point that I'm trying to make here is he was a batter before, and you could see it when he plays. He knows how to score runs. He has got his lazy elegance,” Karthik told Cricbuzz while talking about Ashwin who picked 13 wickets in the first Test.

Overall, Ashwin has scored 3185 runs in 132 innings (94* Tests) at an average of 27.22. With the ball, he has picked 486 wickets at an average of 23.67. The star cricketer is considered among one of the modern greats of the game.
