India lost the first T20I against West Indies by four runs at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Thursday. Hosts West Indies defended the 150-run target as India batters found run-scoring really difficult due to the slow nature of the pitch.
However, there was a point in the match when India looked well on course to win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series. Sanju Samson's six on the final ball of the 15th over, reduced the equation to 37 runs off 30 balls.

Unfortunately, the course of the match changed within the span of three balls. Hardik Pandya was clean bowled by Jason Holder on the first ball, while on the third ball of the 16th over, a direct hit from Kyle Mayer standing at covers, ended the 12-ball 12-run stay of Samson.
Axar pushed the ball towards cover before setting off for a quick single as Mayer moved to his right and launched a rocket throw to dislodge the stumps. The replays showed Samson well short of the crease.
The fans of the Kerala superstar were quick to draw comparisons between the run-out of Samson in the first T20I and the famous MS Dhoni run out in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand. In the match Martin Guptill ran out to send the former India packing at a crucial juncture in the match. India lost the high-octane match by 18 runs.
The Hardik Pandya-led side lost by a small margin of four runs as West Indies took a lead for the first time in this ongoing India's all-format tour of the West Indies. The visitors won the Test series 1-0 before winning the first and third ODI to grab the 50-over series 2-1.
