The chase was built around a dominant opening partnership between Gill and Rohit. Rohit struck 101 from 75 balls, including 10 fours and six sixes, while Gill kept the scoring rate high throughout. Virat Kohli added 29 from 19 balls before falling, and Ruturaj Gaikwad stayed unbeaten on 31. India crossed 400 with 39 deliveries to spare, completing the chase in 43.3 overs and sealing the three-match series 2-0 in emphatic fashion.

India successfully chased 406, their highest successful ODI chase, surpassing the previous mark of 362/1 against Australia in Jaipur in 2013. India reached 406/2 in 43.3 overs, becoming only the second team to successfully chase a 400-plus target in men's ODI cricket. It is also the second-highest successful chase.

2. Gill hits fastest ODI double century

Gill reached his double century from 117 balls, breaking Ishan Kishan's record of 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022. He finished unbeaten on 223 from 133 deliveries, with 26 fours and eight sixes. It was his second ODI double century, making him second batter after Rohit Sharma to score two.

3. Rohit becomes first to hit 200 ODI sixes in one country

Rohit Sharma became the first batter in ODI history to hit 200 sixes in a single country. He achieved the feat in India during his 101 off 75 balls against West Indies. Chris Gayle is second with 147 sixes in one country.

The Guwahati match produced five centuries. West Indies contributed three through John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114), while India had centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Five centuries created an ODI landmark as it has happened for the first time.

Gill's unbeaten 223 became India's first ODI double century while chasing a target. His innings was the centrepiece after West Indies posted 405/7. He combined with Rohit for a rapid opening stand before continuing the assault after Rohit's dismissal, ensuring India completed the 406-run chase with 39 balls remaining.
