IND vs WI: The latest India Test opening pair of Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal created multiple records in their first outing together. The duo became the first opening pair since 2006 to stitch a hundred stand in the West Indies.
Overall, only four India opening pairs have partnered for over hundred runs in the Carribean. Sunil Gavaskar and Ashok Mankad partnered for 123 unbeaten runs against in 1971.

Gavaskar then partnered with Anshuman Gaekwad for 136 runs before Wasim Jaffer and Virender Sehwag piled up 159 runs together in 2006. This record for highest opening partnership by an Indian pair in West Indies stood tall for 17 years before being broken on July 13, 2023.
On the first ball of the 61st over, Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a boundary off Jason Holder through square to break Jaffer and Sehwag's record.
Later, Sanjay Bangar and Virender Sehwag's record for highest India opening partnership against West Indies was also broken. Sehwag and Bangqr piled up 2021 runs together at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2002.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma slammed a hundred each to partner for 229 runs in 75.4 overs. The duo faced 454 balls together - the third-highest by an Indian opening pair. Rohit and Mayank Agarwal (492 vs SA in 2019) and Sehwag and Rahul Dravid (461 vs PAK in 2006) occupy the number one and number two spots in the list respectively.
KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal were the last India opening pair to register a century opening partnership in Test cricket. It came at Centurion against South Africa in 2021, In 22 innings thereafter, India just had four 50-plus opening stands.
