The victory was made even more remarkable by the West Indies' batting effort earlier in the day. The visitors posted 405/7, with John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) all scoring centuries. It was the first time West Indies had three centurions in the same ODI innings.

India's successful pursuit of 406 also eclipsed their previous highest successful ODI chase of 360 against Australia in 2013. With the victory, India have taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, with the third and final match scheduled for October 3 in New Chandigarh.

It is also the second-highest target successfully chased in ODI cricket. Only South Africa's famous pursuit of 435 against Australia in Johannesburg in 2006 stands above India's latest achievement.
