India ODI captain Shubman Gill has led the Indian team to a scintillating run chase as they are set to chase down 406 runs against West Indies in Guwahati.

Chasing the mammoth target, Gill has scored a stunning double century, as India are on the verge of winning the match and thus sealing the series.

Shubman Gill Creates ODI History, Smashes Fastest Double Century

Shubman Gill has created history during India's second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati on Wednesday, becoming the fastest batter to score a double century in men's ODI cricket.

Gill reached the landmark in just 117 balls, bettering the previous record held by India's Ishan Kishan, who had scored his double century off 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022.

The India captain's extraordinary acceleration saw him move into an elite list of the fastest double-centurions in ODI cricket. The broadcast graphic during the innings showed Gill at the top of the list, followed by Ishan Kishan, Australia's Glenn Maxwell, Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka and West Indies great Chris Gayle.

Gill breaks Ishan Kishan's record

Gill's record-breaking effort is particularly significant because he surpassed Ishan Kishan's previous mark by nine deliveries. Kishan had reached his double century in 126 balls against Bangladesh in Chattogram in 2022.

Australia's Glenn Maxwell had previously occupied third place after his sensational 128-ball double century against Afghanistan in Mumbai in 2023. Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka followed with his 136-ball double hundred against Afghanistan in Pallekele in 2024, while Chris Gayle's 138-ball effort against Zimbabwe in Canberra in 2014 completed the top five.

Gill's second ODI double century

The latest landmark also adds another major milestone to an already impressive ODI career. Gill's first ODI double century came against New Zealand in Hyderabad in 2023, when he scored 208 off 149 balls.

The Guwahati innings therefore gives Gill his second ODI double century, placing him among the select group of batters to have scored multiple 200-plus totals in the format.
