India defeated West Indies by five wickets in the first ODI in Barbados on Thursday. Chasing a paltry 115-run target, India made many several changes to their batting order as they chased down the target in 22.5 overs but only after losing five wickets.
Ishan Kishan impressed as an opener, scoring 52 off just 46 balls but his partner Shubman Gill could managed just seven runs off 26 balls. Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat wearing Sanju Samson's jersey and got out trapped in front of the stumps to depart after 25-ball 19.

Hardik Pandya (5) and Shardul Thakur (1) also failed to impress. With the ball, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav picked three and four wickets respectively to run through the West Indies batting unit. Kuldeep registered figures of 4/6 in three overs.
Change in batting orders were made as the management have clear plans to give ample time to players to put their case forward for the Asia Cup 2023 and the following World Cup 2023.
Captain Rohit Sharma came to bat at seven and remained unbeaten on 12 off 19 alongside Ravindra Jadeja (16 off 21). Virat Kohli did not bat. However, the exclusion of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad was not well received by the fans.
