IND vs WI third T20I: Yashasvi Jaiswal handed debut opportunity, India make two changes vs West Indies

Yashasvi Jaiswal was given the opportunity to make his T20I debut after being named in the playing eleven for the third T20I against West Indies at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The 21-year-old was made to sit out in the first two T20Is and got an opportunity in the third match in place of southpaw Ishan Kishan. Jaiswal had a stellar IPL 2023 season which saw him score 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61.

The left-hand batter made his Test debut earlier on the tour and finished as the leading run-scorer. The Mumbai batter scored 266 runs in two matches at an average of 88.67.

Further, Ravi Bishnoi has made way for Kuldeep Yadav in the crucial third T20I for India. Notably, India are trailing 2-0 and another defeat would see West Indies take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5-match series.

West Indies captain Rovman Powell won the toss and elected to field first on a slow surface. He also expresses excitement at the prospect of winning a series against India. Powell informed that Jason Holder was out with a small niggle injury.

"Looks like a slow surface. Jason Holder picked up a niggle in his knee. The medical staff suggested he get a break. In comes Roston Chase. Guys are very excited. We are on the doorsteps of victory. The guys are very optimistic. Hopefully things go well. It [the plans] becomes very important when you play a team like India," Powell said after winning the toss.

India captain said that his side won't mind chasing and revealed plans to contain in-form Nicholas Pooran.

"We were looking to bat. We have some plans to keep things simple to him [Pooran]. Hope he misses and mistimes one and gets out. We'll try to keep things simple," he said.
