IND vs WI: Virat Kohli Masterclass Seals India’s Chase as India star Equals Two Sachin Tendulkar Records

Virat Kohli produced another stunning ODI chase on Sunday, smashing an unbeaten century against West Indies in the first ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, to guide India to a commanding victory.

Chasing 296, India lost Rohit Sharma for 32, but that only brought Kohli to the crease. The veteran batter joined captain Shubman Gill, and the pair took complete control of the chase.

Gill struck a century of his own before falling for 110, but Kohli continued his assault. He brought up his hundred in emphatic fashion and remained unbeaten as India completed the chase with eight wickets in hand and 50 balls to spare. Kohli finished with 139 not out from 88 balls, striking at 157.95, in an innings that included 12 fours and seven sixes.

The knock was particularly significant because Kohli had entered the match just 59 runs short of 15,000 ODI runs. He crossed that landmark during his innings, becoming only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the mark.

Kohli Equals Sachin's List-A Century Record

Kohli's century also took him level with another Tendulkar landmark. Before this match, Kohli had 59 List-A centuries, one behind Tendulkar's tally of 60. His unbeaten hundred against West Indies took him to 60 List-A centuries, equalling Sachin at the top of the list.

What makes the achievement even more remarkable is the number of innings required. Tendulkar reached his 60 List-A hundreds in 538 innings, while Kohli has done it in considerably fewer innings.

Kohli Equals Sachin's Home Century Record

The century also brought Kohli level with another Tendulkar record. Kohli's hundred took his tally to 42 international centuries on home soil, equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record of 42. Before the match, Kohli had 41 home international hundreds, while Tendulkar held the record with 42.
