IND vs WI: Virat Kohli's ODI brilliance continues as India star hits amazing record amid 15,000 Runs

Virat Kohli's remarkable consistency in ODI cricket continued on Sunday as the former India captain brought up another half-century during the first ODI against West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kohli reached 52 not out, adding yet another 50-plus score to an extraordinary recent run. With this knock, the veteran batter has now registered nine 50-plus scores in his last 11 ODI innings, underlining his consistency in the format.

The veteran has continued his red-hot form in the 50-over format, with runs galore for a long time. His purple patch with the bat puts him in a strong position for the ODI World Cup in 2027, as the veteran is certain to be a part of it. His sequence across those 11 innings reads: 74, 135, 102, 65, 93, 23, 124, 5, 64, 74 and 66*, as he continues to bat against the Windies.

Only two of those innings have fallen below the 50-run mark, the 23 against New Zealand and five against England- while the remaining nine have produced scores of 50 or more.

Virat Kohli brings up 15,000 ODI Runs

Kohli's latest effort also comes in a significant match for the Indian batter. He entered the contest just 59 runs short of becoming only the second men's ODI batter to reach 15,000 runs, behind Sachin Tendulkar.

West Indies Set India 296-Run Target

Earlier, West Indies posted 295/7 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first. Justin Greaves led the way with a maiden ODI century, scoring 101 off 108 balls, while John Campbell contributed 62. Amir Jangoo also struck an unbeaten 58.

India's response began with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit was dismissed for 32, but Gill and Kohli steadied the chase.

With Kohli unbeaten on 66 and India progressing strongly in the chase, the veteran's latest half-century has once again put the spotlight on his extraordinary ODI consistency. At the time of publishing, Shubman Gill has completed his century and bats on 103 as India are 202/1 after 31 overs and look destined to chase the target down with ease.
