IND vs WI: Virat Kohli on cusp of massive ODI feat, only four players feature in the elite list

Virat Kohli will have a chance to join the company of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya in an elite ODI list on Thursday. The former India captain has a chance of becoming only the fifth batsman in the history of ODI cricket to become 13,000 ODI runs.

Kohli before the first ODI match against West Indies in Barbados on July 27, has scored 12898 runs at an average of 57.32 in 274 ODI matches (265 innings). He needs just 102 runs to join the four former greats who have scored 13,000 ODI runs.

Sachin Tendulkar is leading the chart with 18426 runs in 463 ODIs (452 innings) at an average of 44.83. Kumar Sangakkara is second with 14234 runs in 404 matches (380 innings) at an average of 41.98.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting played 375 matches (365 innings) and scored 13704 runs at an average of 42.03. Former Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya scored 13430 runs at an average of 32.36 in 445 matches (433 innings).

Once Kohli reaches the landmark, he will have the highest strike rate and average among players with 13,000 ODI runs. Jayasuriya currently has the highest strike rate among the four members in the list. He carries a strike rate of 91.20 during his career. Kohli ahead of the West Indies clash in Barbados has a strike rate of 93.62.

Kohli is also just three hundreds behind Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 49 tons. Kohli can come at level with Tendulkar if he hits a hundred in each of the three ODIs in the series.
