IND vs WI: India's latest batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal on Thursday scored a fifty on his Test debut and joined an elite list of Indian batters who have scored fifty-plus runs in at least one innings of their maiden red-ball match for India.
On the 104th ball of his innings, Jaiswal pulled a short deliver from Alzarri Joseph for a boundary to reach the milestone. The Mumbai batter was flamboyant in his approach on Day 1 as he went unbeaten on an overnight score of 40.

However on Day, he completely changed his approach and looked a lot more watchful. At the stroke of lunch, the left-hand batter was unbeaten on 62 off 167 balls. At the end of Day 1, he had scored 40 runs off 73 balls including six boundaries. The first session on the following day saw him score just one boundary.
As the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer showcased his strong mental strength and ability to play long and patient innings in the format, he joined the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sunil Gavaskar, Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal in an elite list.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has become only the eighth India opener to register a 50-plus score in his debut Test innings. Shikhar Dhawan (2013), Prithvi Shaw (2018), KC Ibrahim (1948), Mayank Agarwal (2018), Sunil Gavaskar (1971), Arun Lal (1982) and Dilawar Hussain (1934) are other India openers on the list.
