IND-W vs BAN-W: The tense political climate between India and Bangladesh is set to spill over into cricket once again, with the women's bilateral series scheduled for December now likely to be postponed.
The Hindustan Times has reported that the three ODIs and three T20Is, which form part of the ICC Future Tour Programme, will not take place as planned due to the "prevailing diplomatic tensions between the two governments."

This development comes just months after the men's series between the two nations was also indefinitely deferred. With the December window suddenly opening up, the BCCI is exploring alternative options. According to the report, the board is considering arranging a short home series in the third week of December-India Women's first international action since lifting the 2025 ODI World Cup. But the available time frame is narrow, with the Women's Premier League lined up for early January and a tour of Australia immediately after.
The men's series, originally scheduled for August soon after the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, met a similar fate. Although neither board acknowledged political reasons in their joint statement, CNN-News18 had previously reported that the postponement stemmed from diplomatic friction. The official announcement avoided political language, stating: "This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams." It further added, "The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course."
The geopolitical situation has worsened considerably since then. The Bangladesh uprising has heightened tensions, particularly with Dhaka demanding the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India. Trade restrictions imposed by New Delhi, growing concerns over China's involvement in Bangladesh, and disputes over river water sharing have deepened the divide.
The diplomatic rift intensified on Monday when a tribunal in Bangladesh handed Hasina a death sentence-an event that has further complicated relations and is now influencing bilateral sporting engagements.
With the political situation still evolving, the future of India-Bangladesh cricket ties remains uncertain.
