IND-W vs IRE-W 2nd ODI: Jemimah Rodrigues Century Powers India Women to Highest Total And Series Win

By MyKhel Staff

Jemimah Rodrigues' maiden hundred in a collective batting performance helped Indian women's cricket team register their highest ODI total and a series-clinching 116-run win against Ireland in the second ODI at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday (January 12).

India Women scored a massive 370 for five riding on three half-centuries and a ton before restricting Ireland to 254 for 7 in the stipulated 50 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

While skipper Smriti Mandhana was first off the blocks with an attacking 73 off just 54 balls, Rodrigues' first hundred (102 off 91 balls) ensured a smooth finish for the hosts with newcomer Pratika Rawal (67 off 61 balls) and seasoned Harleen Deol (89 off 84 balls) also adding to India's record total.

  • 333/5 vs England in 2022
  • 325/3 vs South Africa in 2024

In response to India's 370, Ireland batted steadily but never had the firepower to surpass a gigantic target. Apart from Christina Coulter Reilly's 80, there wasn't much fight from the other batters as off-spinner Deepti Sharma emerged as the pick of the Indian bowlers with figures of 3 for 37.

Titas Sadhu (1/48), Sayali Satghare (1/40) and Priya Mishra (2/53) also claimed wickets for the hosts. Rodrigues, who was named player of the match for her first century in international cricket, said she was 'relieved'.

"I am relieved. I have scored a lot of runs in domestic cricket. The roles usually has been different in the side. I have played more T20 cricket. I tried to play how I used to play in the domestic circuit. I thought I haven't played enough in this format," Rodrigues said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"It took me a while. I usually bat at 5. You keep being patient. You keep hitting the gaps. We had a chat we need to keep batting till the 40th. When I was taking my time, she took the charge. We have played a lot of cricket together if not batting together but that helped."

India and Ireland will next lock horns in the final match of the series at the same venue in Rajkot on Wednesday (January 15), when the hosts will aim to complete a second successive ODI series white-wash.
