India 3rd in ICC Test rankings after 1-0 series win over England
London, Aug 14 (UNI) A 1-0 series victory over England has pushed India up two places to third place behind Australia and England in the latest ICC Test Championship rankings chart released today.
With 107 points to its kitty, India is just four points behind England and though it has the same number of points as Sri Lanka, India stands above the Lankans when the ratings were recalculated to three decimal places.
Australia continues its dominance with 141 points. South Africa is at the fifth position with 102 points.
The consolation for the England team is the fact that things could have been worse. In case India had won the final Test at the Oval, it would have made England's total to 107 points tied with Team India and only decimal places would have given Michael Vaughan's team a second place.
India's series win, secured by virtue of a drawn first Test at Lord's and victory in the second match at Trent Bridge by seven wickets, is its first in England since its 2-0 success in the three-match series in 1986. India's only other success in England was the 1-0 win in 1971.
