Team India has won the ICC T20 World Cup, and the entire nation is celebrating it. And why not? It's a hard-earned victory for our nation, after a long wait.
There is no doubt that the Indian cricketers have shown exceptional game skills on the field and they are rightly being praised for the same. There are many cricketing experts, who understand the intricacies of the game, and are praising the cricketing skills shown by our team.

But, I am more fascinated by the mental toughness, shown by many of our players during this championship. To start with, let's look at Hardik Pandya. Only a couple of months ago, he was booed by the fans, wherever he went, during the IPL season 2024. It is said or rumoured, that he also is facing some problems on his personal front, though we don't know the reality. In short, it is beyond any doubt, that, he was going through a very tough time in his life.
But what is worth noting, is the manner, in which, he has shown remarkable restraint, during this hostile criticism and has just kept quiet. A person with such a sporting ability was bound to bounce back. He got the right chance to do so, during this World Cup and more particularly, in the final over of the final match! With this performance and winning the cup, the picture completely changed. Those who were shouting 'against' him, started shouting 'for' him. So the clear take is the mental strength that he has demonstrated during this adversity. To put it in his own words " by staying strong, working hard and giving answers only through sports ".
The next outstanding example, is of Rishabh Pant. Rishabh met with a horrific car accident in December 2022. The accident was so serious and life-threatening, that,it was felt, that he may not be able to play cricket again, leaving aside representing the nation. But, with his sheer determination, hard work, medical support and extraordinary mental toughness, he was back in IPL 2024, leading a team, where he accumulated around 400 runs. He was picked up in the Indian World Cup squad. Besides keeping wickets, he was also promoted in the batting lineup and has always shown his fearless attitude during the games.
Even captain Rohit Sharma played in the 2007 World Cup, but was dropped for the 2011 World Cup. He came back strongly, polished his skills, to finally lift the World Cup 2024, as the captain of the Indian team. Obviously, this is not possible without a very strong mindset. There are many such examples in the current World Cup team and not only amongst the players, but also in the support staff, where they have bounced back from adversity, with their strong will and optimism.
India's champion batsman and now the champion coach Rahul Dravid, while praising Virat Kohli has said " Virat Kohli has as much skills, as a lot of others. But Virat is mentally tougher than anyone else. He knows his game better than anyone else. And nobody can teach you what is going on in your head, only you know". This is so important. You have to help yourself on the path of recovery.
That's why it is said that "It's not about being strong all the time, but it's about picking up yourself and keep going when the life gets tough "
