India beat Pakistan to claim prestigious Record after New Zealand win in Raipur

India stunned New Zealand by chasing down 209 with 28 balls to spare in the second T20I at Raipur on January 23, 2026, thus taking a 2-0 lead in the series.

This clinical victory has etched India's name into T20I record books ahead of Pakistan, while showcasing their batting firepower at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium in Raipur.

New Zealand batted first after losing the toss, with Devon Conway blasting four boundaries including a six in Arshdeep Singh's opening over, before holing out for a quickfire start. Tim Seifert, Rachin Ravindra batted well while Mitchell Santner's late flurry took them north of 200.

In reply, India's top order overcame early jolts to unleash a barrage. Despite losing Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma early, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav stitched a superb partnership.

Record Chase Achievement

India's pursuit of 209 became the highest target successfully chased after losing two early wickets (or fewer) against Full Member sides, surpassing New Zealand's 194 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi 2023 (when NZ were 4/2 before victory). Openers set a blistering platform before the middle order accelerated past 200, finishing at 210/4 in 19.2 overs.​

The win placed India atop the list for most balls remaining when chasing 200+ totals by Full Member teams. India have gone past Pakistan who previously held the record against the Kiwis in 2025 while chasing 205 runs.
