India have clinched their third T20 World Cup title as they demolished New Zealand in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday (March 8) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
A stunning batting display saw the team post a mammoth total of 255, and then the bowlers bundled out the Kiwis for just 159 runs, thus winning the match by 96 runs. With the title, India have now created five prestigious records.

India have now become the first team to win 3 T20 World Cup titles. India have now won in 2007, 2024 and 2026. England and West Indies have won two each.
T20 cricket's volatility has seen no champion repeat in the following tournament. The defending champions' top showings have been semi-final runs. After winning the title in 2026, India have now become the first team to defend a T20 World Cup crown. India won their 2nd title under Rohit Sharma two years ago, and now Suryakumar Yadav has joined the list.
In nine tournaments across host nations, no primary or co-host has claimed victory; hosts have peaked at runner-up spots, like Sri Lanka in 2012. India have now become the first team to win a T20 World Cup crown on home soil. Incidentally, India were also the first team to win an ODI World Cup on home soil when they won in 2011.
As India win the T20 World Cup this year, they have become the first Asian team in the history of the game to win 5 World Cups across all formats - 2 ODI titles, and 3 T20 titles.
Australia have won the most number of titles with 7 wins to their name - 6 ODI World Cups and 1 T20 World Cup. Among the Asian Countries, Sri Lanka have 2 World Cups to their name, while Pakistan have the same number as well. India currently hold 4 World Cup wins (2 ODI and 2 T20I), and they equal the tally with West Indies.
