The Indian cricket team will be participating in three limited-overs series on either side of the World Cup 2023, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed.
The ICC ODI World Cup commences from October 5 in India. Ten teams will participate in the global extravaganza as it takes centre stage in India. But just before and after the tournament, there will be assignments for the Indian team.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the Men in Blue will be up against two different opponents in those matches. It was decided on Friday (July 7) in the apex meeting of the BCCI in Mumbai.
India will be up against Afghanistan in a much-anticipated ODI series which is set to commence in January next year.
Originally, it was slotted from June 23 to 30 this year but the series didn't commence to ensure optimal conditions for both teams. BCCI already has an agreement with Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) about the series and it looks like the fans will have to wait till next year for the clash.
Along with that, Rohit Sharma and his troops will be challenging their Australian counterparts in limited overs assignments on either side of the World Cup.
India will play 3 ODIs before the World Cup, while following that up with a 5-match T20I series after the mega event.
It is also confirmed that the three-match 50-over series will commence the new media deal of the Indian team for the next four years. Currently, Star Sports have both telecast and digital media rights for all of India's home matches, but a new deal is expected by the end of August.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah also revealed the Indian board is set to introduce a new policy to regulate retired players' involvement in foreign franchise leagues.
The meeting on Friday further gave green light to the Indian team participating in the upcoming Asian Games. It is reported that Shikhar Dhawan may well be leading the team in Hangzhou in September for the continental tournament.
