Indian cricket saw a topsy-turvy year in 2022. From despair to rejoicing, Indian cricket saw a contrasting set of emotions throughout the year.

There were many struggles for the Indian team this year. The men's national team failed to live up to the billing in both the Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup as they were ousted from the Super Four and the Semi-Finals respectively.

The Women's team also had a disappointing World Cup in March where they failed to reach the semi-finals. Then in the Commonwealth Games, the Indian team came close to winning the Gold but faltered in the final.

Let's take a look at the bittersweet moments of Indian cricket in 2022-

1. Gujarat Titans win IPL on debut season

1. Gujarat Titans win IPL on debut season

A historical moment came for Gujarat Titans in the IPL as they won the title in their debut season in 2022. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants were the two new franchises that were introduced in 2022, and Titans lifted the trophy in their first year. The final was also played at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which has become the biggest capacity cricket stadium in the world. Hardik Pandya led the Titans to their victory and has made a name for himself as a captain. Pandya also led India in a couple of T20 series in Ireland and New Zealand. His leadership will now be tested in the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka that starts on January 3.

2. Suryakumar Yadav with a stellar year

2. Suryakumar Yadav with a stellar year

Suryakumar Yadav had a fabulous year for India, especially in the T20 international matches. The crafty batter amassed 1164 runs with a strike rate of over 188. He was outstanding with the willow and breezed past every bowler that came his way.

He also finished the year with two T20I centuries. The first one came against England while the second one came against New Zealand, both overseas. SKY finished as the highest scorer for India in the T20 format in 2022.

3. Virat Kohli rolling back the years against Pakistan

Virat Kohli had an underwhelming 2022 with the bat. He struggled in Test cricket across the year. But the stalwart turned his fortunes at the latter end of the year in limited overs cricket.

He scored his maiden T20I hundred against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, and then scored an ODI hundred after more than three years in the Bangladesh tour. But the moment of magic came against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.

Chasing 161, India were 31 for 4 at one stage. Kohli batted exquisitely and scored an unbeaten 82 to take India home from an improbable stage. He demonstrated a paramount display of batting and his two sixes off Haris Rauf's bowling will remain in the Indian cricket folklore forever.

4. India Women's losing in the CWG Final

The Indian Women's Cricket Team came close to winning the first-ever cricketing event in the Commonwealth Games. They were denied the Gold medal after losing against Australia in the final by just 9 runs.

Indian Women won their first-ever bilateral ODI series in England in September. Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls saw off the hosts 3-0 in the 50 overs format. Harmanpreet herself scored the most runs in the ODI series with 221 runs, at a humongous average of 221. Smriti Mandhana also did exceedingly well with the bat, scoring 181 runs. Renuka Singh was the star with the ball as the pacer picked up 8 wickets in just two matches.

England all-rounder Sam Curran became the most expensive IPL player with his INR 18.5 crore deal with Punjab Kings. Australia player Cameron Green follows him after Mumbai Indians bought him for INR 17.5 crores.

Ben Stokes (INR 16.5 crore) and Nicholas Pooran (INR 16 crore) also fetched big sums and will be donning the Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants colours respectively.

7. Ishan Kishan scoring the fastest ODI double hundred

Ishan Kishan made history against Bangladesh when he scored a fantastic double-hundred earlier this month. Kishan's 200 was the fastest in the history of ODI cricket and he also became the first player in the history of ODI cricket to convert his maiden hundred to a double hundred.

Kishan made 210 as India won the final match of the ODI series against the Tigers, having already lost the series prior to the match.
