Team India equalled the record for lowest total defended in T20 World Cup history with their thrilling six-run win over Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday (June 9).
In match 19 of T20 World Cup 2024, India managed to defend the target of 120 runs, restricting Pakistan to 113/7 at the completion of their 20 overs on a testing surface in New York.

Tied with Sri Lanka defending 120 runs against New Zealand by bundling them out for 60 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup, India has defended the lowest total ever in the tournament history.
Before the 119-run defence, India had defended 146/7 against Bangladesh in the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as their best ever defence in the show-piece tournament history.
With the latest defence, India has also bettered defending their lowest total in T20I cricket. Previously, the lowest total defended successfully by India in T20Is was a target of 139 runs against Zimbabwe in 2016, restricting them to 135/6 and winning by three runs.
Note: The lowest totals defended are for the full 20 over per side matches and not the truncated matches in the shortest format as some shortened games have seen even lower scores been defended in the past.
Following the win on Sunday (June 9), India has secured their seventh win over Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup, having lost just one game, back in the 2021 edition at UAE by 10 wickets.
Coming back to the match, Haris Rauf (3/21) and Naseem Shah (3/21) helped Pakistan bundle out India for 119. And in the run chase, Jasprit Bumrah (3/14) and Hardik Pandya (2/24) claimed wickets at crucial stages to seal the 6-run win for India.
