India in ICC Test Bowling Rankings: The latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings released on October 29 has been a disaster for Indian bowlers, including erstwhile No. 1 Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin lost out on the top two spots, dropping two places each to third and fourth spots respectively.
Bumrah, considered one of the best ball swingers in the world, failed to pick up even a single wicket in the India vs New Zealand second Test match, resulting in his drop in rankings. Meanwhile, even though Ashwin picked up five wickets over the two innings in the second Test, he failed to improve his points tally and fell down the ladder.

| Player | Rating | Career Best | Overall Rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jasprit Bumrah | 846 | 881 | 3 |
| Ravichandran Ashwin | 831 | 904 | 4 |
| Ravindra Jadeja | 776 | 899 | 8 |
| Kuldeep Yadav | 661 | 686 | 17 |
| Mohammed Siraj | 565 | 661 | 27 |
| Axar Patel | 505 | 650 | 41 |
| Washington Sundar | 381 | 381 | 53 |
| Shardul Thakur | 336 | 489 | 60 |
| Akash Deep | 188 | 254 | 91 |
| Mukesh Kumar | 146 | 188 | 96 |
Other Indian bowlers in the top 100 rankings also suffered drops of various degrees. Ravindra Jadeja dropped two spots to the new rank of eight, taking three wickets in the second innings after a barren spell in the first one.
Kuldeep Yadav, who was India’s lone riser in last week’s ICC Test bowling rankings, fell down two spots to 17th place. Despite taking three wickets in the first Test match, an ongoing groin injury led to the management dropping him from the second match, resulting in his fall in rankings.
Mohammad Siraj’s poor form also saw him dropped for the IND vs NZ second Test, resulting in him losing points, although he did not suffer a drop in rankings.
Washington Sundar held on to the 53rd spot in the rankings with a stunning display in the second Test. The all-rounder registered figures of 7/59 and 4/56 in the two innings. Although he failed to rise up the rankings ladder this time, one would expect him to improve upon his standings if he carries on this rich vein of form in the third Test match against the Kiwis.
Players like Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur, who did not feature in the Indian squads for the latest Test series, suffered slight drops in rankings due to their non-participation.
