India Legend Bishan Singh Bedi passes away at 77

India legend and former Indian cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on Monday (October 23).

Bedi passed away at the age of 77 and the news of his death has come as a huge shock to the Indian cricketing fraternity.

The legendary player represented India in 67 Tests and 10 ODIs. He was a left-arm orthodox spinner, who picked up 266 wickets in Tests. He was born on December 25, 1946 in Amritsar and was a coveted spinner in his era.

He played for India from 1967 to 1979 and also led the Indian team in 22 matches. Bedi was also an instrumental figure of Indian team's first World Cup victory in 1975, when he pulled off a bowling figure of 12-8-6-1 against East Africa.

Former India players Irfan Pathan, Dinesh Karthik and others have shared their condolences on social media after the tragic news.

"Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Bishan Singh Bedi Sir, a legend and a true ambassador of the sport. His contribution to Indian cricket will be remembered forever," Dinesh Karthik wrote on his X profile.
