India Next Captain: Not Shubman Gill! BCCI finalizes Captain and Vice-Captain in T20 format

India's T20 dynamic currently has a big void to fill after the retirement of Rohit Sharma from the format. The Indian team requires a new captain in the format.

Currently, Shubman Gill is captaining the Indian team in a 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. However, his leadership is temporary as BCCI is not thinking of him as the next captain who can take over the reins.

India

Although there are many players who are in the race for the role, one player is significantly leading the race and is likely to be the next captain of the Indian team.

A BCCI insider revealed to OneCricket that selectors plan to appoint Hardik Pandya as the new T20I captain. Hardik's impressive performance in the T20 World Cup has earned him this opportunity.

The BCCI also considered Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav for the role. However, Hardik emerged as the preferred choice and will lead the team in the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.

The Indian management aims to establish a stable core for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Appointing Hardik as captain is part of these preparations, with an official announcement expected closer to the Sri Lanka series.

Jasprit Bumrah as India Vice-Captain?

Jasprit Bumrah is set to be appointed as Hardik's long-term deputy. This decision aligns with India's strategy to build a strong leadership team for future tournaments.

As India gears up for future challenges, fans eagerly await the official confirmation of Hardik's captaincy and Bumrah's vice-captaincy. Both players play their cricket in the state of Gujarat.

The potential captain Hardik Pandya plays for Baroda in domestic cricket while Jasprit Bumrah represents Gujarat. The duo also play for the same team in IPL, Mumbai Indians.
