Indian on Saturday (October 19) overcame their second-highest lead at home against New Zealand in the ongoing first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After getting bundled out for 46 in the first innings - their third-lowest team total in Test cricket - the Indian batters showed exemplary cricketing skills to wipe off the massive 356-run deficit against a very quality New Zealand bowling unit.

Openers Rohit Sharma (52 off 63) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (35 off 52) gave a strong and positive start to the team, forging a 72-run partnership off just 104 balls. Later, Virat Kohli walked in and chipped in with 70 off 102, and also partnered for 136 runs off 163 balls for the third wicket with Sarfaraz Khan.
On Day 4 of the Test, Sarfaraz brought up his maiden Test hundred to put India in a solid position. He scored 150 runs off 195 balls, and his partnership with Rishabh Pant accounted for 177 runs off 211 balls.
India overcame the 356-run lead of New Zealand after play resumed following the rain break. Pant missed out on his hundred by just one run and departed for 99 off 105 balls. After his dismissal KL Rahul was joined by Ravindra Jadeja.
In total, India have overcome a 300-plus deficit at home on three occasions. The last one came back in 2009 against Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad. Overcoming the 274-run deficit against Australia in the iconic Eden Gardens Test match also features in the top five list of highest deficits overcome by India at home.
At the time this story was published, India were leading New Zealand by 77 runs and had five wickets in hand.
