Indian skipper Rohit Sharma didn't have the best of the day at the Asia Cup 2023 during the India-Pakistan match as the opener was dismissed after scoring just 11 runs in 22 balls at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy on Saturday (September 2).
Rohit Sharma's decision to bat first came under the scanner too as the Men in Blue lost their four top-order batters for just 66 runs inside the first 17 overs. The likes of Shubman Gill (10), Virat Kohli (4) and Shreyas Iyer (14) cut a sorry figure too as Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi took charge of bowling in overcast conditions.

The match was interrupted twice amid India's top-order collapse and the first abrupt halt came before Rohit Sharma's dismissal. The captain, who resumed his innings at 11 after the first break, was castled by a beautiful inswinger by Shaheen Afridi, who found the gap between Sharma's bat and pad. Prior to his dismissal, Rohit Sharma was seen losing his mind on the cameraman in the dugout as the captain was coming out to bat again after the rain break. The moment was captured on camera and soon went viral on social media.
Rohit's dismissal was the beginning of the top-order collapse for India as the next three wickets fell in the space of 55 deliveries. Afridi played down Virat Kohli on return in his next over while Haris Rauf played down Shubman Gill as well after the second rain interruption. Rauf then surprised Iyer with a cracker of a bouncer, which clocked at 147 kmph to get a pull shot out of the batter direct to Fakhar Zaman for a sharp catch at the mid-wicket.
At the time of writing this report, Ishan Kishan helped India recover to 140-odd runs by the 29th over while the wicketkeeper-batter scored a fighting half-century with Hardik Pandya playing the role of an anchor at the other end.
