India won the toss and elected to bowl first in the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur. Rohit Sharma declared that India was playing with the same team which was fielded in the first Test in Chennai.
The toss in Kanpur was delayed due to dampness in the outfield caused due to the overnight rain. Rohit Sharma was seen having a close look at the pitch before the toss.

Explaining the decision to bowl first, Rohit explained there was softness in the pitch, and he was expecting his pacers to exploit the moisture present on the black soil pitch.
This is the first instance of India opting to bowl after winning the toss in a home Test match in last nine years. Notably, Bangladesh had also opted to bowl first in the previous Test in Chennai.
Considering the slow nature of the black soil pitch, it was expected that India would play with two pacers and three spinners. Local boy Kuldeep Yadav was expected to find a place in the eleven, however against all the predictions the Indian think-tank surprised everyone by continuing with three pacers - Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, and two spinners - Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Bangladesh made two changes in their eleven. They brought in spinner Taijul Islam and pacer Khaled Ahmed in place of pace duo of Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed.
