India practice match: Virat Kohli exposed in 9 minutes, Yashasvi Jaiswal shines, vice-captain Rahane fails

On Day 1 of the practice match between Rohit Sharma XI vs Ravichandran Ashwin XI, Virat Kohli's weakness on deliveries pitched on off-stump line was exposed once again by left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat.

Virat Kohli could stay in the middle for just 12 balls and nine minutes after poking an Unadkat delivery pitched on the fourth stump line to give a simple catch in the slip cordon. The former India captain scored three runs.

On the slip side, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a blazing fifty. His 76-ball innings for 54 runs consisted of seven fours and two sixes. Jaiswal's opening partner Rohit Sharma pulled Unadkat for a six during his 67-ball stay for 24 runs. Both Rohit and Jaiswal retired to give others a chance.

Shubman Gill walked in at number three and scored 27 off 49 balls before getting out caught and bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane batted twice on Day 1. He was dismissed for one by Unadkat in the first attempt. In the second round, Rahane stayed unbeaten on 28 off 49.

Further, KS Bharat played 63 balls and spent 92 minutes on the crease to score nine unbeaten runs. Ishan Kishan, the second wicketkeeper-batter in the team did not bat on Day 1. Axar Patel again impressed with the bat by scoring unbeaten 35 runs off 63 balls.

Navdeep Saini bowled 10 overs for 24 runs and no wicket. Mukesh Kumar also failed to pick any wicket after bowling 10.1 overs. Ravindra Jadeja bowled 11 overs for 29 runs and no wicket. Ravichandran Ashwin, who did not get to feature in the WTC final, bowled 12 overs to leak as many as 43 runs without taking any wicket.
