Team India added a second successive ICC title when they met New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (March 9).
Rohit Sharma-led India, who had put an end to their long ICC trophy drought last year, defeated the Black Caps by four wickets in the Champions Trophy final to add back-to-back titles on the big stage following a barren run of 11 years.

Since Mahendra Singh Dhoni guided the Men in Blue to a Champions Trophy title nearly a decade ago, the Indian cricket team had come close to lifting another ICC title, but fell short in their previous several attempts.
However, the heartbreaks finally ended when India defeated South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados. Earlier, Rohit's Team India had failed in their quest to land an ICC trophy following defeats in ODI World Cup 2023 final and the World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia.
Before that they had also suffered heartbreak at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, where they bowed out in the semifinals following defeat to eventual champions England. The Indian team had also suffered heartbreak in the inaugural World Test Championship against New Zealand.
But the Men in Blue finally exacted revenge against the Black Caps by winning the Champions Trophy title clash on Sunday (March 9) in a rematch from 25 years ago when the Kiwis broke Indian hearts in the ICC KnockOuts Final 2000.
India had won five ICC titles prior to 2014 and also had two more runners up finish along with a few semifinal exits in ICC tournaments during the last 11 years of drought at the global events. Here is a look at India record in ICC events since 2013 Champions Trophy:

Before the 2013 Champions Trophy triumph, Dhoni had guided India to one T20 World Cup title in 2007 and one ODI World Cup triumph in 2011, ending a 23-year wait for the 50-over World Cup.
India had also won only the 1983 World Cup under Kapil Dev and shared the Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002 under Sourav Ganguly, who also guided the Men in Blue to the first World Cup final since 1983 in 2003, when they lost the final to Australia.
Now, under Rohit, India has tasted back-to-back success in ICC events, and will hope to add more titles in the next two years with the next T20 World Cup set for 2026 as well as the ODI World Cup and a WTC final set to take place in 2027.
