Dubai, Dec 31 (UNI) India retained fourth spot, trailing New Zealand by just two rating points in the LG ICC ODI Championship rating issued today.
However, the Kiwis successfully defended their third place by defeating Bangladesh 3-0 in the ODI series in Queenstown which concluded yesterday.
The Black Caps had gone into the series knowing that only by winning all the three matches could it avoid slipping behind India into fourth place.
Given the weighting of the different positions in the LG ICC ODI Championship table, the series win did not earn any rating points for the Kiwis and they still lead fourth-placed India by just two points. In contrast, Bangladesh lost just one rating point with its lead over 10th-placed Ireland cut down to 19 ratings points.
Australia remains the front-runner in the Championship with 130 points, leading second-placed South Africa by six ratings points.
Irrespective of South Africa's ODI series result against the West Indies starting at Centurion from 20 January, Australia will go into its tri-series with India and Sri Lanka on 3 February in top slot.
However, the middle of the table is extremely congested as only five ratings points separate third-paced New Zealand from England in seventh position.Indeed, eighth-placed West Indies is only seven points further back.
With Pakistan, West Indies, India and Sri Lanka involved in ODIs over the next couple of months, plenty of reshuffling is expected in the Championship table.
