WC 2015: India should play their own game, not imitate Riaz against Australia, feels Srinath

Sydney, March 24: Former Indian speedster Javagal Srinath doesn't feel that Indian bowlers should try to imitate Pakistan's Wahab Riaz against Australia in their semi-fnal match at the Sydney Cricket Ground here on Thursday.

India should not imitate Riaz: Srinath

In an exclusive interview to Anandabazaar Patrika, the former spearhead of the Indian bolwing attack said no matter what people are saying about imitating Riaz, Indian pacers should stick to their own game and not force to turn Sydney into Adelaide.

He said the Indian bowlers should focus on speed and the direction of the ball outside the offstump and not bowl too many short deliveries. He said the Australians play short deliveries well.

Riaz bowled superbly against Australia in the quarter-final match at the Adelaide Oval but could not stop the hosts from winning the match by 6 wickets.

Srinath felt the hosts will be favourites but the final result of the match will depend on the pitch.

He also praised Mahendra Singh Dhoni's captaincy in the World Cup and his handling of the bowlers. He said in the interview that fact that Dhoni is a wicket-keeper is helping him judge his bowlers more.

When asked about the final at Wanderers in Johannesburg in the final of the 2003 World Cup in which he went for 87 runs in 10 overs, Srinath said had he got another chance, he would not have allowed the Australians to cut and pull at ease.

India had lost that match by 125 runs after the Australians led by Ricky Ponting put up 359 runs in their innings. Ponting himself slammed 140 not out off just 121 balls.
