India-South Africa Test: After rains, KSCA uses fire on Bengaluru pitch

Bengaluru, Nov 13: A rare sight was witnessed at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here ahead of the 2nd India-South Africa Test. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) came out with innovative ideas to guard and dry the most important part of the ground - the pitch.

Much to the surprise of the players from India and South African sides, officials, fans and the media, KSCA had installed a white canopy to prevent water flowing onto the 22-yard strip.

This unusual sight was seen on Thursday morning (November 12). Another new thing on view was the use of fire on the main square to dry up the area.

Much before both teams had arrived at the venue, the groundstaff, under the watchful eyes of the pitch curator K Sriram, were seen using fire to dry up the wicket, early in the morning.

With rain lasing the city daily, from Sunday evening (November 8), KSCA's secretary and former Test batsman Brijesh Patel has come up with this new concept of canopy to protect the square.

The 1st Test pitch in Mohali attracted a lot of attention as the match ended on the 3rd day with India sealing the game by 108 runs.

Now, with rain playing spoilsport with the preparations of the track, it will be interesting to see how it plays from Saturday (November 14).

India will look to extend their 1-0 lead in the 4-match series while the Proteas aim to make it a special outing for AB de Villiers in his 100th Test in Bengaluru.
