India squad announcement for Sri Lanka T20Is and ODIs: After India won the five-match T20I series vs Zimbabwe by a 4-1 margin, the focus will now move on the T20I and ODI series in Sri Lanka starting Saturday, July 27.

Gautam Gambhir, the newly-appointed coach of the Indian cricket team, will start his tenure with the six white-ball matches to be held in the island nation. While the T20I series will conclude on July 30 in Pallekele, the ODIs will be played on August 2, 4 and 7 in Colombo.

The India squad for Sri Lanka T20Is and ODIs is very likely to be announced on or before Sunday, July 21. The BCCI selection committee will soon sit down to pick the India squad for their Sri Lanka tour.

A handful of players are expected to be retained from the Shubman Gill-led squad picked for Zimbabwe T20Is. Hardik Pandya looks all set to be named the permanent T20I captain of the Indian cricket team.

The likes of Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Ravi Bishnoi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan - all part of squad for Zimbabwe series - are expected to travel to Sri Lanka as well.

Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande could be dropped. It will be interesting to see if Abhishek Sharma, who hit a hundred in the second T20I, manages to retain his place. Apart from that hundred, the 23-year-old all-rounder did not impress much.

Hardik, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav look well set for a return after being rested post India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in West Indies last month.

Further, chances of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah enjoying an extended break is high. While Kohli is in London with his family, Rohit Sharma was seen attending Wimbledon 2024 in London, before travelling to the USA for an event. Bumrah was spotted at the wedding ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant.
