Dainik Jagran reported that the selection meeting was postponed due to the dilemma over the T20I captaincy of India. Notably, there is a toss up between Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav to become the new T20I captain of India.

Reports from multiple media houses emerged that Suryakumar Yadav was set to pip Hardik Pandya and become the new T20I captain of the team. But Hardik Pandya, who was the vice-captain of the Indian team in T20 World Cup 2024, looks to be still in the race.

A section of the BCCI is reportedly in favour of going forward with Suryakumar as Hardik Pandya's fitness has been an issue over the years. They want to go with someone who is available for a longer period of time.

It was Hardik Pandya who took over India's T20I captaincy after Rohit Sharma took a sabbatical from T20Is after India's loss in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, Suryakumar Yadav also came in the picture after Hardik injured himself during the T20 World Cup 2023.

He led India against Australia and South Africa, and seven five of the seven matches. He has one hundred and two fifties to his name as the captain of the Indian T20I team.

Gautam Gambhir urges selection committee to pick players with strong commitment

Further, Cricbuzz on Wednesday reported that a virtual meeting was held between Gambhir, selectors and BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday. The newly-appointed coach also gave his idea on the composition of the squads for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. He suggested the Ajit Agarkar-led panel pick players with strong commitment.
