The BCCI has announced the Indian cricket squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. This series marks the first stint of Gautam Gambhir as head coach of India, and he has lobbied for Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) as the T20I captain over all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed the T20I captain, stepping in ahead of Hardik Pandya, while Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the ODI team. This decision highlights the selectors' faith in Suryakumar's leadership abilities and his impact in the shortest format of the game.

The announcement came on Thursday, July 18, 2024, with the BCCI revealing the squads for both the T20I and ODI series. The T20I team will see Suryakumar Yadav at the helm, with Shubman Gill serving as the vice-captain.
