India Squad for T20 WC 2024: India Must back this Player despite Off Form, reckons ex-Australia captain

The India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be announced in the coming days.

Team India are hoping to field their best team in the World Cup and it will be a massive tournament for many of the Indian stars, especially after the heartbreak in the 50-over tournament last year.

Mohammed Siraj

Although the team is yet to be selected, the experts have already started to dissect the chances of the probable contenders.

India are likely to name four pacers in the 15-man squad. Jasprit Bumrah is the only certainty in that department, as the others will be picked on the basis of their recent form in the IPL 2024 and experience.

Mohammed Siraj is having a disappointing time with RCB in the IPL 2024. The pacer has only 5 wickets to his name in eight matches and has been expensive with an economy close to 10.

A section of the experts and ex-players have questioned the selection of Siraj and want youngsters like Avesh Khan or Mayank Yadav in the squad.

Although the decision remains to be seen, former Australia captain Tom Moody thinks selectors must back Siraj for the T20 World Cup. He says the pacer is jaded for the work load as he is playing continuous cricket for India.

"I made this point about two weeks ago about Mohammad Siraj. He looks mentally and physically fatigued. I think he's come into this IPL having played a lot of all format cricket for India for a long period of time. So I think that's part of the reason he's had his challenges with the ball" Moody said to Star Sports.

Mohammed Siraj

And the Australian wants selectors to include Siraj in the India squad for his performances for India in the last 12 months or so. Siraj was an instrumental figure in India's World Cup campaign and was excellent in the Asia Cup prior to that.

"I would back him 100% to step up in the World Cup, purely because if you look historically what he's done for India and even what he did in the IPL last year, and you know his abilities in T20 cricket, be has been outstanding. So for me, he's taking the new ball with Bumrah, because I'm looking to take early wickets in the power play," Moody concluded.
