India squad For T20 World Cup 2024: The BCCI on Tuesday announced India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The Rohit Sharma-led side has the likes of Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh in it.

Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan have not found place in the 15-member squad but got mentions in the reserve-list. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube and pacer Arshdeep Singh got the nod ahead of them.

There were speculations around the inclusion of Hardik Pandya, but the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain has been named Rohit Sharma's deputy for the ICC mega event. Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are expected to form the top-order.

Rishabh Pant has got place as first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, while Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are the two spin-bowling all-rounders in the squad. Kuldeep Yadav is the other specialist spinner alongside Chahal.

However, there were three big names who did not even get a place in the reserve list despite being in the news recently. Have a look.

KL Rahul: KL Rahul is one of the biggest names in Indian cricket. He was the eighth-highest run-scorer in the World Cup 2023. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain is also the fourth-highest run-scorer in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. But Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain pipped him in the race. Rahul's strike rate in T20 cricket has been in question for a long time.

Ishan Kishan: Ishan Kishan was once India's backup opener and wicketkeeper-batter, but his India career has gone downhill ever since he took a sabbatical during India's tour of South Africa last December. The southpaw doesn't have a central contract now, and was also snubbed from India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. He has scored 244 runs in 10 matches at an average of 24.40 in IPL 2024.

Dinesh Karthik: The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is carrying a strike rate of 195.52, and an average of 52.40 in the ongoing IPL 2024. Rohit Sharma during a match, joked that he was eyeing a World Cup spot, but Karthik went on record to confirm that he really was harbouring a dream to play for India at the upcoming showpiece event in the USA and the West Indies. However, Dinesh Karthik was denied another comeback opportunity, and the role of finisher for Team India.

Note: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravi Bishnoi, the number fifth-ranked T20I bowler in the world, are two other big names to miss the cut.
