India squad for T20 World Cup: With just two days left in the ICC deadline for squad announcements, reports have emerged that Shubman Gill and Yuzvendra Chahal are likely to miss out on a T20 World Cup 2024 berth.

While Chahal is one of the leading wicket-taker in the IPL 2024, Gill has also scored over 300 runs in 10 matches as Gujarat Titans (GT) captain. Yashasvi Jaiswal is very likely to pip Shubman Gill, whereas Axar Patel is in contention to be picked as a spin option ahead of Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal.

The Cricbuzz report has also suggested that Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya are in contention to be named as India vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2024. Pant, who was in doubt to even play in the IPL, has emerged as the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, and now competing against Hardik Pandya for the vice-captaincy role.

Hardik Pandya is enduring a horrible season as the Mumbai Indians captain in IPL 2024. He has been ultra-expensive with the ball, and hasn't impressed with the bat either. That puts Pant ahead of him in the race.

Further, there is a toss up between KL Rahul and Sanju Samson for the second wicketkeeper-batter spot. Samson currently looks ahead in the race with 385 runs under his belt at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 161.08. Rahul has scored 378 runs at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 144.27.

One or both of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh will be there in the 15-member India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Among pacers, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are certain of getting picked. Sandeep Sharma also has an outside chance.
