Ajinkya Rahane included in India's WTC Final squad against Australia, Suryakumar Yadav dropped

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked the squad for the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia which will be played from June 7 at The Oval in London.

Former India vice-captain, who was out of the Test team since January 2022, has been recalled in the absence of injured middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer. Suryakumar Yadav, one of the contenders for the middle-order, hasn't found a place in the 15-member squad.

Rahane has been in red-hot form in the ongoing IPL 2023: In the five matches Rahane has played so far, he has scored 209 runs at an average of 52.25 and a strike rate of 199.04.

Further, KS Bharat has been named as the designated wicket-keeper. Ishan Kishan, who was part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, has not retained his place. KL Rahul retains his place despite his torrid run in the format.

The 31-year-old was dropped from the playing eleven after failing to perform in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Suryakumar was given an opportunity to debut in the first Test in Nagpur but he managed to score only eight runs.

Kishan could not debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the management continued to back KS Bharat. The Andhra Pradesh wicketkeeper-batter impressed with his glove-work and found rhythm with the bat as well with a 44 in his last outing in Ahmedabad.

However, the team will have the option of playing an extra all-rounder, specialist batter or a bowler depending on the conditions by asking Rahul to take care of the wicket-keeping duties.

Further, India have named three spin-bowling all-rounders in Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Shardul Thakur is the only pacer in the squad who can bat.

Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav have found automatic entries, while left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat has also retained his spot in the absence of injured Jasprit Bumrah.
