India's T20 World Cup 2024 has taken a massive lift after a stellar victory by 6 runs over Pakistan on Sunday (June 9).
India had a dismal outing with the bat at the Nassau County Stadium in New York. Amid overcast conditions, the Indian team had a nightmarish start as they lost Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Despite a strong comeback, they lost their last 7 wickets for just 30 runs and were bowled out for 119 runs.

Pakistan looked in control of the chase but Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel along with Hardik Pandya put them in a stranglehold in the middle overs. Set batter Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed and Pakistan crumbled from there. In the end, the Indian bowlers pulled off a massive coup as Pakistan could only manage 113 runs.
After a winning start against Ireland, this victory over Pakistan is a massive boost for the Indian team. Apart from winning the bragging rights, it has also taken India to the summit of the Group A table. Pakistan lost their first match against USA and after this defeat against India, they are on the brink of elimination.
India holds the upper hand in the race for the Super Eights as they sit on top of the Group A points table. With a comparatively better Net Run Rate than USA, team India will have to ensure that they win over the USA and then they will almost ensure their qualification.
India's next match is against USA on June 12 and their final group-stage match will be against Canada on June 15. If India beats USA, then they will likely qualify as the group winners.
With the defeat, Pakistan's chance of making it to the Super Eights is in grave danger. Babar Azam and his team will have to win both of their matches and depend on other results to qualify for the Super 8 stage in the T20 World Cup 2024.
In Pakistan's case, USA is the biggest block. If the United States wins one of their last two matches, Pakistan will be eliminated. Hence Pakistan will have to hope that USA loses their last two matches against India and Ireland. If this happens and Pakistan wins their last two against Canada and Ireland, Babar Azam and his team may qualify for the next stages.
