"Obviously, you go back to seeing your old vidoes, where you batted brilliantly. I have been batting beautifully in the nets. But I have to just get past the hurdle and the issue remains invisible for now, but I am sure I will be able to do that," Surya says on his own form.
And Devajit Saikia, says from the wings,"Sometimes catches also wins you tournaments".
"Nobody is talking about Jaiswal, he is missing as well. At the end of the day, You are looking to see different options and best combination to give you the best chance to do well in the World Cup. That's what we felt," Agarkar says.
"Post the T20 WC when we went to Sri Lanka and I was captain, Shubman played a key part. It is not about Shubman Gill's form, but it was just about team combination. We just wanted to have a keeper at the top, and wanted a Rinku Singh as a finisher. The form has no question as we can't question his (Gill's) quality. Hence it is all about what the team needs," says the India captain.
"In any team sport, one or two players are always rotational. When the players come back, they get opportunities. This squad has a ready combination depending on our opponent, and we are very happy with that," Suryakumar Yadav says.
Suryakumar Yadav says that the team is settled despite all the recent changes and combinations. Ajit Agarkar also seems to be a bit rattled with the questions. The chief selector belives 'some players will miss out a particular format. So let's not make a huge hting out of it'.
"The squad looks balanced and we have filled in well. We can use 2-3 combinations already so we are quite happy with the team," says captain Suryakumar Yadav.

"Abhishek has been excellent. We felt a keeper at the top gives us a lot more solidity. In the 15, someone has to miss out. These are the combinations the team management is looking for," Agarkar says on Jitesh Sharma missing out.
"He bats at the top and he has a 200 for India. Like I said, we feel this combination is we want to try. You need right kind of backups and we felt he is the best candidate at this point," Agarkar says on Ishan Kishan's selection.
Shubman is unfortunate to miss out but it is just the combinations. He has been short of runs as well.

The same team will be playing against New Zealand T20I series.
The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has arrived for the press conference. He is likely to name the team along with Surya and Agarkar.
We are still waiting for the squad announcement. But it will start very soon.
The squad announcement was supposed to be at 1:30 PM, but the press conference has yet to start. As per the broadcasters, the meeting is done for the squad. We can expect Ajit Agarkar, Suryakumar Yadav coming soon to announce it.
India will play a five-match T20I series against New Zealand before the T20 World Cup 2026. The Indian team for that bilateral series is set to be the same as the T20 World Cup.

The team is set to be announced soon. We are moments away from the press conference. Who will be making it in the 15-member squad? We will know it in minutes.
The team is confirmed. Suryakumar Yadav and Ajit Agarkar will attent the press conference and name the team shortly.
'I think Mohammed Siraj will bolster India's bowling in the T20 World Cup. I reckon he will be better than Harshit Rana for a World Cup,' says Harbhajan Singh.
"The World Cup squad team meeting will be very brief, because it is almost decided," says Saba Karim.
"I was waiting for my turn and chance. I was just training and keeping focus. The team management has always been clear and I know the team's vision. I have a great relationship with Surya bhai and Gautam bhai, the communication has always been clear. The environment of a team is very important and being in the system for a long time, I could ideate the thinking of our team and the leadership group."
Both Suryakumar Yadav and Ajit Agarkar are at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, and we expect the team to be named soon.
India had a stellar victory in Ahmedabad last night, and here's what Raghu bhai said...
Apart from the T20 World Cup squad, the India squad for the New Zealand series will also be picked. It is likely that the selectors will pick an identical squad for the series and the subsequent T20 World Cup.
We are an hour away from the press conference. Suryakumar Yadav and Ajit Agarkar will address the press after the team selection.

As the selectors pick a 15-member squad, they will have to name around 4-5 standby players for the T20 World Cup 2026.
The standby players can be - Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, Prasidh Krishna, Rinku Singh, Ravi Bishnoi.

Abhishek Sharma's T20I career is a fireworks display of modern aggression. In 33 matches and 32 innings, the explosive left-hander has piled up 1115 runs at an elite average of 35.96 and scorching strike rate of 188.02 - featuring 2 centuries (highest 135) and 6 fifties.
Recent form shows 593 runs with highs of 107 and 73, blending consistency with power. As India's No.1 ranked T20I batter post-Asia Cup dominance, his opening blitzes make him indispensable for T20 World Cup 2026.
He made his T20I debut after the T20 World Cup 2024, and has been a force since.
India's journey in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup has been a rollercoaster of triumphs and heartbreaks since the tournament's inception in 2007. As one of the most successful teams, they boast two titles – the inaugural win in 2007 under MS Dhoni and the 2024 victory led by Rohit Sharma, where they remained undefeated throughout. They've reached the semi-finals or better in five editions, with a runners-up finish in 2014.
| Edition | Host(s) | India's Finish | Key Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | South Africa | Champions | Defeated Pakistan in the final; MS Dhoni's iconic leadership debut. |
| 2009 | England | Super 8 | Early exit despite strong start. |
| 2010 | West Indies | Super 8 | Struggled against top teams. |
| 2012 | Sri Lanka | Super 8 | Super 8 Exit |
| 2014 | Bangladesh | Runners-up | Lost to Sri Lanka in the final. |
| 2016 | India | Semi-finals | Heartbreaking loss to West Indies in semis. |
| 2021 | UAE/Oman | Super 12 | Failed to advance from group stage. |
| 2022 | Australia | Semi-finals | Defeated by England in semis. |
| 2024 | West Indies/USA | Champions | Unbeaten campaign; beat South Africa in final. |
Overall, India have played 53 matches in the tournament, securing 35 wins for a win percentage of approximately 66%. Their batting has been a powerhouse, with records like the highest team total of 260/5 (against Sri Lanka in 2009) and individual brilliance from players like Kohli, who holds the record for most runs in T20 World Cups (1,141). On the bowling front, spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have been pivotal, while pacers such as Jasprit Bumrah have dominated in recent years.
India have been placed in Group A, alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia – a relatively straightforward group that avoids early clashes with powerhouses like Australia or England. The highlight is undoubtedly the India-Pakistan encounter, scheduled for February 15 in Colombo, expected to draw massive global viewership.
India's group stage fixtures are as follows:
Advancing to the Super 8s seems likely, given India's superior ranking and home advantage. However, the tournament's knockout stages will test their mettle, with potential semi-final venues favoring India if they qualify – Mumbai or Kolkata, depending on matchups.
As defending champions and co-hosts, the pressure is immense on India to deliver a third title. Their recent form – only three losses in T20Is since the 2024 win – positions them as frontrunners. Key to success will be the explosive top order, spin dominance in subcontinental conditions, and Bumrah's death-over mastery. Challenges include adapting to varying pitches in India and Sri Lanka, managing injuries, and handling the hype around the Pakistan game.
Emerging talents like Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma could shine, while veterans like Hardik Pandya provide all-round balance. With the IPL serving as a perfect lead-in, India's depth ensures they're well-prepared.
Based on recent performances and expert predictions ahead of tomorrow's official announcement, here's a probable 15-member squad:
