Pakistan, the number one ranked team before the start of the Asia Cup 2023, has slipped to third after losing against Sri Lanka and crashing out of the continental showpiece event on Thursday.
The Babar Azam-led side could not hold their nerves and lost the last-ball thriller by two wickets. Earlier, India beat them by a record 228-run margin on Monday.

India have qualified for the Asia Cup 2023 and are unbeaten in the tournament. Their solid run has helped them overtake Pakistan to occupy the second spot. India have 116 rating points, two short of number one ranked ODI team Australia.
Pakistan now have 115 points. India have a chance to reclaim the top spot in the coming days by beating Sri Lanka to win the Asia Cup 2023 final. Australia have locked horns with South Africa, and they will have to lose their remaining two matches of the 5-match series.
India and Australia will be involved in a 3-match ODI series starting September 22. Pakistan do not have any international ODI matches to play going into the World Cup 2023 which begins from October 5. They will face New Zealand and Australia in 50-over warm-up matches ahead of the mega event but they will not be considered as internationals.
Defending world champions England are fourth with 103 rating points, while New Zealand are fifth with 102 points. England and New Zealand face each other in the fourth and final ODI at the Lord's in London on Friday. England are leading the series 2-1.
