How has India fared in Tests in SENA countries since 2022? Results show horrific picture

India suffered a dismal defeat at the hands of South Africa in the first Test in Centurion as they lost the match by an innings and 32 runs.

The 2023 calendar year has ended disappointingly for Rohit Sharma and co., who now have gone behind in the two-match Test series against South Africa. The match ended within two and half days and now Proteas lead the series 1-0.

IND vs SA

India, who reached the WTC 2023 final, have been excellent in the red ball format. There excellent outing in the cycle of the last two years saw them competing in the championship clash against Australia.

But since 2022, India's performance in the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) has been a cause of concern. India have lost all of their 5 Tests in SENA countries since the start of the 2022 calendar year.

  • 1st - India vs South Africa - Lost by 7 wickets (Johannesburg)

India lost the match in Joburg in 2022 and thus the series got levelled 1-1. It was a match which was a closed battle, but the Proteas got the crucial victory courtesy of Dean Elgar, who batted beautifully in the final inning of the match.

South Africa won the match again by 7 wickets in Cape Town and thus won the series 2-1. Keegan Petersen was the best player of the match and guided the home team to a 7-wicket victory.

This match was scheduled to be played in 2021, but was halted due to Covid-19 pandemic. India were leading the series 2-1, but then lost this one-off match and England levelled the series 2-2.

India had their heartbreak in the 2023 WTC Final as Australia prevailed at the Oval. The Indian team again crumbled in a final and thus were handed their second consecutive defeat in WTC finals.

The latest of them has come in the match against South Africa in Centurion. The Indian team made a sorry surrender against the Proteas. It was Nandre Burger who had an excellent Test debut with 9 wickets across two innings. But Dean Elgar was the player of the match for his brilliant 185 in the second innings.
